Homemade Onion Rings Recipe

Prep 15 mins. | Cook: 15 mins. | Serves: 6

Ingredients:

  • 1 large, sweet onion, sliced into 1/2-inch rings

  • 1 c. milk

  • 1 T. white vinegar

  • 1/2 c. sour cream

  • 1 c. all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp. corn starch

  • 1/2 T. salt

  • 1/4 tsp. pepper

  • 1 tsp. paprika

  • 1 tsp. garlic powder

  • canola oil, for frying

Let's Get Started!

  1. Heat a Dutch oven or deep fryer to a medium heat (375 degrees). Add 1" of oil or enough to cover the onion rings.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk milk with the vinegar and let it sit for 5 minutes. Then whisk in sour cream. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, salt, pepper and garlic powder.

  3. Slice and separate the onion rings. Then use a fork to dip each ring in the milk mixture then dredge it with flour. *Repeat the dipping and dredging process a second time. Place battered onion rings on a tray lined with parchment paper until you are ready to fry.

  4. When the oil is ready, place 3-4 battered onion rings in a single layer in the hot oil and cook for about 2-3 minutes, flipping the rings halfway and continue frying until golden brown. *This step can be omitted if using a deep fryer.

  5. Place the cooked onion rings on a paper towel lined tray and sprinkle with salt while they are still hot. Serve immediately while they are crunchy or keep them warn in a 200 degree oven until ready to serve. Pair with Stephanie's Anything Dipping Sauce!
